Honoring the memory and achievements of those who lost their lives during the Civil Rights Movement, downtown Montgomery’s Civil Rights Memorial Center is a place of contemplation where visitors can appreciate how far the nation has come in its quest for equality. The memorial, created by Maya Lin, is simple yet powerful, engraved with the names of 40 Civil Rights Movements martyrs. The center features state-of-the-art exhibits, a 56-seat education theater and the Wall of Tolerance, a record of those who pledge to take a stand against hate. The center is located in downtown Montgomery, just around the corner from the historic church where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. served as pastor during the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
